LOCAL DISHES AND STREET FOOD-A SOURCE OF HAPPINESS IN GHANA
Gloria Mensah Writes:
Every country has its special local dishes and street food they enjoy, which comes in different varieties.
How well do you enjoy local and street dishes as compared to continental dishes?
Well, this is a question I asked some few people with different backgrounds, who gave me answers based on their choices of foods.
There are several local dishes in Ghana, which are mouth watering and satisfies the taste buds of the people.
Some of these include Waakye, Kenkey with fried fish, Banku with okro sauce or pepper, Acheke, Aprapransa, boiled Yam or Plantain with garden egg or kontomire stew, Fufu with variety of soup, Tuo-zaafi, Akple, Rice and stew among others.
Gari and beans, popularly known as "Gob3" and Hausa Porridge with Koose or Bread, pictured above are some of the most cherished typical street food in Ghana.
Other street foods loved by many include roasted Plantain with groundnut, popularly known as "Kofi Brokeman", roasted Yam with salted fish, roasted or boiled Corn with coconut and others.
These street foods are appreciated and cherished by Ghanaians, which helps to sustain hunger in the mornings and early afternoons.
Fried yam, grilled meat (Khebab), Kelewele and the likes are also adored.
As people begin their respective daily activities, foods, particularly street food, serve as a real fast food which helps students, workers and everyone as they tackle their endeavours in the mornings with haste.
Cooking can be time and energy consuming sometimes, so these foods are always readily available to consumers as quick fix for thier daily activities.
This helps to speed up things and also make people comfortable.
