SPECIAL PRESIDENTIAL LECTURE: BETWEEN FORMER PREZ. JOHN MAHAMA AND WISCONSIN SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION, GHANA

There was happiness and excitement in the air, as students and faculty members welcomed Former Prez. John Dramani Mahama on delivering of a special public lecture.
The seminar was organized by Wisconsin School of Communication Studies Ghana, Accra Campus on April 3, 2024.
The special guest of honour, His Excellency John Mahama interacted with students and the Communication Studies faculty of WIUC.
Some of the guests who received him include; Professor Obeng Mireku (President of Wisconsin Ghana), Professor Kwame Karikari, Dr. Evelyn Sika, Mr. Edmund Kofi Yeboah, Mrs. Baaba Coffie, Mrs. Esi Asante, Mrs. Rebecca Owusu, Mr. Nana Duncan, SRC Executives among others.
He began his speech with vote of thanks to WIUC, for organizing and making all preparations hold and also honouring him.
He continued by highlighting on some key points of some of the challenges and hardships the country is facing currently.
He stated that, the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration will ensure that, the economy becomes stable and flexible for its citizens.
The content of his speech was diverse as it conforms to all aspects of economic progress.
Some of the challenges he spoke about were, in educational sector, poor infrastructure has resulted to overcrowding, intimidation and victimisation of school heads, teachers and other stakeholders.
He said, "For 4 years, text books have not being supplied to schools, after a change in curriculum".
He quoted,"Over 1.2 million of school going age between 4 and 17 years are not in school,
"Out of this number, almost 1 million of them, to be precise 942,427 children are reported to have never attended school according to Population and Housing Census 2021".
He continued that, the economy is facing mismanagement in terms of education, health, agriculture, social et cetera.
He spoke about some of the achievements of NDC before they left office in 2016.
He said, between 2010 and 2016, the NDC awarded the total of 2,936 schools under tree project and 2,031 were completed by the time NDC administration left office.
He then emphasized on the agenda put in place on how the next NDC administration will provide solutions to the challenges and enhance economic growth in Ghana.
He said, the next NDC administration will provide several job opportunities to citizens.
Also, they will invest heavily in constructing schools particularly focusing on rural areas.
In addition, they will expand digitalization in Agriculture and establish agro-industrial zones in all the regions in Ghana et cetera.
He shared a remarkable opinion in a jovial way of the National Cathedral which was interesting.
He believed the whopping amount spent on the project, could have been used to tackle other pressing issues to help the citizens of the country.
In his closing remark of the speech, he encouraged the youth in Ghana to participate in politics and the affairs of the economy.
Also, he gave students and others the opportunity of asking him questions and provided immediate feedback to all.
The whole lecture was interactive, interesting and educative as objectives and concerns were all addressed.
WIUC Ghana and the School of Communication Studies, honoured the school and students by organizing such important public lecture and engagement with the Former Prez of Ghana.
Ghana is a great nation, with hardwork, effort and determination, we can change and make it better.
